Day Hike - Cougar Mountain: Red Town Trailhead

Want to "earn" a tasty treat? Adults with teen/almost-teen hike from Red Town Trailhead to Frosty Barrel for a hand-crafted hot chocolate and/or ice cream, then back...4.8 miles round trip. Cost of hot chocolate and ice cream not included!

Let's meet at 11:00 am at the Red Town Trailhead ready to hike. Take exit 10 off I-405 for Coal Creek Parkway, heading east. Continue for 1.0 mile on Coal Creek Parkway, then turn left onto Forest Drive. Continue for 2.1 miles on Forest Drive, then turn right onto Lakemont Boulevard. Additional communication will be emailed to all participants soon after registration closes.

This is a family trip for adults bringing children 12 years of age or older. We'll stick together as a group at about 2.5 mph unless climbing hills, then stop at Frosty Barrel for ~20-30 min for ice cream. (Cost of ice cream not included!) No parking passes required, although consider hiding all valuables or leaving them at home. Please meet at the trailhead at 11:00 am so we can meet with introductions, discuss conditions on the trail and group goals, and start hiking by 11:10 am.


All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before attending an in-person Mountaineers activity during our COVID-19 response. By proceeding with any of the upcoming activities you are already registered to attend, you affirm that you have reviewed The Mountaineers COVID-19 Code of Conduct and the guidance for participants and leaders available on the COVID-19 Response page, and you agree to follow this guidance during each activity. Please remove yourself from any upcoming activity if you are unable or unwilling to follow The Mountaineers guidance at the time of the program.

Also, to help ensure your safety and the safety of our fellow hikers, the leader asks that you only carpool to the trailhead with other members of your household registered for the same trip. 

All participants will need to have a face covering (mask, bandanna or muff), hand sanitizer and a backpack containing the 10 essentials. Wherever possible,  all group member will maintain the 6 ft minimum social distancing protocol and be ready to pull up face covering over mouth and nose when this is not possible passing others on the trail and at the trailhead.
