Day Hike - Cougar Mountain: Red Town Trailhead

Come and joint me on my monthly Sunday Morning/Early afternoon close to home "walk-abouts!" These hikes are 5-9 miles in length and this time it is a good one. I am going to explore the best part of Cougar Mountain: the waterfalls and view points. Guaranteed to see: 3 waterfalls, 2 view points, and possibly 2 peaks (but peaks on Cougar have no view!)

The following are the meeting options:

#1.  For those coming from the South Sound, you can meet me at 8:00am in the South Federal Way Park and Ride; 901 S 348th St., Federal Way, WA, 98003.   Google Maps will take you right here.  I will be in this lot a little bit after 7:45am in a dark gray Subaru Forester, parking in the northwest area of the lot.  The lot will be pretty empty so you should see me.

#2.  Second meeting option is at 9:00am at the Red Town Trailhead, Bellevue, WA 98006 to Cougar Mountain.  Again, Google Maps takes you right there sometimes but if you put in the following longitude/latitude:   47.535489, -122.128813   you will get there for sure.  Also some directions:  Drive to the Coal Creek Family YMCA at 13750 Newcastle Golf Club Rd, Newcastle, WA 98059, then go north, past the Newcastle Golf Club Road (road name changes to Lakemont Blvd SE) for about 1.5 miles and you will see the trailhead parking area to your right.  I expect to be there between 8:45 to 9:00am standing near to a dark gray Subaru Forester.

This is a great close to home winter hike that has a bunch of nice stops to enjoy.  We could have snow along the way so that you should be prepared to pack microspikes and use poles, both often needed for stability.

Lastly,  like any winter hike the actual hike route may change for safety and, although I have not yet had to do it, the hike may be cancelled for safety.
