9:30 AM at Bothell Park & Ride
You know the saying: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. We’ll this is the try again hike. I lead this hike last year early in the season—imagine snow to your waist. Being a quick learner (it only took me a year) I’m going to lead this hike again; however, three and a half months later in the year. Please join me whether you were on my previous attempt or if it’s your first time. July 29, Sat. – Copper Lake. (M) (USGS Big Snow Mountain) 8 mi., 2,400’ gain. Meet at 9:15 am Bothell Park & Ride (Kaysner Way). This hike is near Skykomish and off of Hwy 2. We’ll pass Trout Lake at 1.5 miles and continue up 2,000’ in 2 mi. to Copper Lake. Trailhead parking requires a Northwest Forest Pass. I plan to begin hiking from the trailhead at 11:00am. Doug St. John, 206-363-2039 or stjohd@att.net. This is an official Mountaineers hike, so you may sign up with the Clubhouse or website. As for carpooling, you can request it when you sign up or just meet at the Bothell Park & Ride and we’ll figure out carpools from there. (Or do both.) More hike details: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/recreation/activities/trails/srd/srd_1064.htm I will be hiking with determination to get to Copper Lake, but relaxed enough to stop and enjoy the wildflowers, scenic mountain vistas, and wildlife along the way. In other words, not a race to the top, but more than a Sunday stroll. Questions?
