Day Hike - Columbia Hills

Hike through balsamroot and lupine bloom overlooking the Columbia Gorge in Columbia Hills state park!

  • Easy
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 6.9 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,060 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,310 ft
  • Pace: 2mph

We will hike from Crawford Oaks Trailhead up the ranch access road to the Vista Loop Trail junction. We will hike through the old homestead and the Crawford Ranch buildings before descending and hiking back along the ridgeline above the gorge to the trailhead to make a large loop.

This hike is very exposed with incredible wildflowers. Please come prepared for full sun. We will try to keep a steady 2mph pace as much as possible but may slow down to 1.5mph up the steeper section with breaks to enjoy the views. I do not often hike faster than 2mph. If you are a trail runner or a quick hiker please be in the mindset that we may need to slow things down for others. All hikers should be prepared for a long hike and able to hike at a consistent pace.
I would recommend carrying two liters of water and lunch/ snack. There may not be access to water for filtering on this hike We will aim to return to the trailhead by 3pm
