Aug. 18, Sat. - Cold Water Peak at Mt St Helens (M) 11.8 mi., 1500' gain. Meet 6 a.m. at Kent-Des Moines P&R;, I-5 south to Kent Exit at approx 230th. Turn left under I-5, go to Military Rd. traffic light. Turn left again and see the P&R; on the left. Look for blue Chevy S-10 pickup. 1/4 hr. See Mt St Helens in all its glory from the best seat in the house atop Coldwater Peak. Total drive time is almost 3-1/2 hours from downtown. Save your gas money for this once-a-year pilgrimage to see what's in the new dome up close and personal. This is THE trip you will talk about. A National Park pass or $3 admission is required per person. Bring binoculars and prepare to make some new friends. Hiking poles are a good idea, plus plenty of liquids. Slow but steady pace.
