Day Hike - Chehalis River Discovery Trail

Hike along the Chehalis River and learn about a two-decade restoration effort of the riparian forest. This is a fun casual family hike with lots of opportunities to see wildlife and learn about riparian plants, eagles almost guaranteed. We can also learn about how sewage treatment and restoration can go hand in hand.

  • Mileage: 3.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 20 ft

This is a family hike with priority given to kids with adults.

  • The hike is appropriate for children of all ages.
  • The trail is not paved but is flat and graveled, except short access paths to the river shore.
  • We will take a snack break on a gravel bar next to the river. Bring snacks for yourself and to share if desired.
  • We will hike rain or shine unless the river is near flood stage.
  • You may bring binoculars and any field guides you like to enhance wildlife viewing.
  • Plants will be starting to bloom, eagles, swallows, and other birds will be nesting, so we'll have lots of opportunities to talk about nature.

Meet at 1:00 pm at the trailhead parking lot at the Centralia wastewater treatment plant, south of Grand Mound off of old Highway 99. Driving directions will be given in a pre-hike email. We anticipate hiking for a couple of hours.
