***Welcome to Hiking Series - PLEASE READ ALL NOTES BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING***
Get yourself out and on the trails during the offseason by joining the Tacoma Hiking and Backpacking Committee on a series of easy to moderate fall and winter hikes that are focused on beginners. Learn tips, tricks, and strategies from our experienced hike leaders that will help increase your confidence to get outside and enjoy yourself. Hikes will range from 4 to 6 miles (or less) in length and will be led at a slower pace that is perfect for beginning hikers. These trips will run from November through March.
We will be hiking up the Chambers Creek Canyon Trail to the Oakbrook Golf Club and back, which is about 3 miles out roundtrip. The trial is a well maintained hike up a forested stream corridor between University Place and Lakewood and the elevation gain is gradual. We will walk at a 1.5-2 mph pace. We will generally stay together.
This hike will happen rain or shine. Be prepared for winter conditions by dressing in layers with a waterproof jacket and wearing waterproof hiking shoes. Poles are not required.
Please feel free to contact me before signing up if you have any questions or concerns.
We will meet at the Chambers Creek Canyon Trailhead at 10:15 and be ready to hike at 10:30. There is roadside parking on both sides of the street for this trailhead just after you cross the bridge. There are no restroom facilities here so stop in town beforehand if needed.
