This hike takes us through Carkeek Park, one of my favorites with ridges, bluffs, seaside beach and spectacular bridge over railroad tracks. Here's our strategy for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most importantly, Hikes are Therapy in Troubled Times, a low risk opportunity to be in-person social.  Here are the March 11 King County Public Health orders for public gatherings of fewer than 250 persons.  We're a private group but we welcome newcomers with a waiver.

King County/ Seattle Public Heath order and our response in italics:

Event organizers must ensure that:

  • Older and vulnerable individuals have been encouraged not to attend. If you don't feel well, stay home. But we welcome older persons who do not have vulnerable health conditions.
  • Recommendations for social distancing and limiting close contact are met.  We expect arms length most of the time -- at least not close for more than 10 minutes.
  • Employees or volunteers leading an event are screened for symptoms each day. We check temperature and general health daily.
  • Proper hand washing, sanitation, and cleaning is readily available.  We all should bring alcohol disinfectant.  Leaders will carry some, too.
  • Environmental cleaning guidelines are followed (e.g., clean and disinfect high touch surfaces daily or more frequently)  We're outside and we'll leave the natural world, naturally scrubbed by rainfall. If railings or other cultural (wo/man-made) objects are touched, we'll alcohol wipe hands,
