Day Hike - Carbon River Road

Two waterfalls! This is a great opportunity to hike a low-elevation old growth forest. The hike to Ipsut Creek Falls with a stop at Chenius Falls, is along nearly six flat miles of old road, surrounded by greenery and the rushing of the river.

  • Mileage: 12.33 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 600 ft
  • Pace: slow

For North end, meet at 6:45 in south west corner of Ash way Park and ride (16327 Ash Way, Lynnwood 98087).
We'll meet  folks south at South Renton Park and Ride, (205 S 7th St, Renton 98087 -  S Grady Way and Shattuck Ave) about 7:30 AM.
We'll form optional carpools (recommended due to park entry fee) and hand out directions to trailhead.  It will be about  another 90 minute drive from there.
For carpools,  drivers are encouraged to be fair when asking for a carpool contribution and passengers are expected to contribute.

This is a long hike, so be sure you can physically handle the mileage.  We will hike at a slow pace with stops for rest and pictures of flora, fauna, views and checking out side attractions.   If you're a fast hiker you'll be happier on another hike.
Hike begins at the  Mount Rainier National Park's Carbon River Entrance. Due to the permanent closure of the Carbon River Road, hikers can now park at the closure and venture to the end of the road to the viewpoint for Ipsut Falls.
Along the way is the  0.2 mile spur trail for Chenius Falls.
National park pass, America the Beautiful  Interagency Senior Pass, or $30.00 per car required at entrance.
