Day Hike - Black Canyon (Umtanum Ridge)
We leave early and return late because there are so many birds along the way. We caravan and bird at selected spots. Black Canyon is geologically interesting and flowers and birds are everywhere. Views from the top of Umptanum Ridge are broad.

Bring binoculars, lunch, snacks, plenty of water and sturdy boots. We have miles to go before we sleep. The trail is mostly an abandoned road. The mile or so road in to the trailhead is abysmal and 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed.
