9AM at Sunrise parking lot, near picnic area
CANCELED 7/20 - due to extensive snow cover with hazardous travel over upper Berkeley Park basin. 7/11 trip was rescheduled to 7/24, due to current snow coverage over entire trail. Leisurely to moderate pace for enjoyment of Mt Rainier and surrounding scenery, wildflowers, wildlife, and capture a few special photos. We'll hike along the Sourdough Ridge to Frozen Lake, then descend into Berkeley Park with its lush meadows accebted with wildflower blooms and trees. Expect to see a few marmots and other wildlife along the trail, especially in Berkeley Park. Option to camp (White River CG or Sunrise backcountry camp) night before or after hike, to hike other Sunrise area trails. This hike is part of the Parklands of Mt. Rainier Series, sponsored by the Seattle Hiking Committee, the Foothills Hiking Committee, and the Seattle Retired Rovers Committee. Signup is open to all.
