8:00 am Preston Park & Ride, I-90 exit 22 or 8:45 am at the Smoke Stack, 207 East Main Street, Monroe. Full directions to both meeting places will be sent to all who sign up once registration closes.

The West Beckler Peak Trail that we will follow starts from the same road as the official Beckler Peak Trail that goes to East Beckler Peak. However, we will start our hike about 2 miles before the Jennifer Dunn Trailhead.  There is only room for 2 or 3 cars to park alongside the road at the start of the West Beckler trail.  So, if there are more cars than this we to drop off hikers there and park most of the cars at Jennifer Dunn & shuttle the drivers back to West Beckler.

Our hike follows mossy old abandoned roads and an abandoned trail to the lookout site.  We expect that the snow will be gone by early August, but it would be wise to pack traction devices just in case. On a clear day from the lookout site we should have a good view south into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

Former Mountaineers Hike leader Ralph Owen has planned our route and he will show the way. Ralph plans to scout the trail shortly before our trip. He believes there is an old, abandoned trail that connected the lookout site to an earlier version of the East Beckler Trail.  If he can scout this one out he will show the way on a one-way traverse to both peaks with a car shuttle between the two.

I will provide more information on this and other aspects of our trip to everyone who registers two days before our trip.

We will travel at a moderate pace. A good level of fitness is required due to the 2,100 elevation gain in just 3 miles
