Climb to the top of a large, freestanding monolith by the Columbia River with spectacular views of the gorge from the top. The trail is a combination of pavement, boardwalk, and rock with some forest. “This trail proves that engineers can build a trail anywhere they want to.” (from Hiking the Columbia River Gorge) Contact leader, Darlene Dickinson, at (preferably) DarleneDickinson@hotmail.com or 360-357-3527. Refer to note below. Note: Save some gas! Get 2 hikes for the tank of one. This is a car camp from Saturday, May 13-14. Combine with Eagle Creek to Tunnel Creek and an overnight stay at Beacon Rock State Park on the Columbia River. State park fees apply. We will have a Sat. night potluck and, of course, a campfire with all the trimmings. Come for 1 or 2 hikes, dinner, overnight, or a combination. Approx. a 2 ½ hr. drive from Olympia or 30 minutes from Portland. No back roads. Contact leader, Darlene Dickinson, at (preferably) DarleneDickinson@hotmail.com or 360-357-3527.
