Ape Canyon - Hike alongside the massive mudflow that swept the Muddy River to a viewpoint that overlooks the lahar basin and the volcano. Further up the trail is a ridgetop that looks down into Ape Canyon and up onto East Dome on the flank of Mount St. Helens. Lava Canyon - The hike starts with the Interpretive Trail. The trail offers a different experience from other trails. We will hike through some metal stairs, a springy suspension bridge and a long ladder that leads down to the gorge floor. There is a small side trail leads to a tall fin of lava and a series of small waterfalls.
