The 100 Year Hike is a Special Event commemorating the very first outing by the Mountaineers. On February 17, 1907, forty-eight (48) mountaineers and guests treked to Fort Lawton (now Discovery Park) where they greeted the post's commander, walked through the woods to the West Point Lighthouse, took a group photo, ate lunch and then returned at low tide along the beach. THE 100 YEAR HIKE: We will re-enact this event on Sunday morning, February 18, 2007 by hiking 3.4 miles from Magnolia Community Center to the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Discovery Park. Following lunch, there will be a program at the ICC. Start Point: Magnolia Community Center 2550 34th Avenue West Seattle, WA 98199 Busses will return the participants to the start point. LATE SLEEPERS and FAMILIES with small children can start at the Discovery Park Visitors Center at 11:00 am PHOTO-OPS: We will be taking a group photo at the ICC before the luncheon. LUNCH: You can buy a box lunch at the ICC for $12 or bring your own. Hot water for cocoa, soup and tea will be available at the ICC. Box lunch choices: - Smoked Turkey & Havarti (Served on ciabatta w/ pesto-mayo, mixed greens, tomato and balsmic vinaigrette) OR - Mediterranean Wrap (Hummus, mixed greens, diced tomatos, cucumber, kalamata olives and feta cheese wrapped in roma tortilla) Lunches include chips, fruit, cookie, bottled water, utensils and napkins. If you want to purchase a box lunch, select your meal and mail a check for $12.00 payable to "The Mountaineers" by Friday, February 9th, to the following address: The Mountaineers ATTN: Rich Barringer 300 Third Avenue West Seattle, WA 98119 PROGRAM AT THE ICC: Speakers will discuss the past and future of the Mountaineers. The program will be from 12:30 - 2:00 pm. VOLUNTEERS: We need volunteers to serve as re-enactors by dressing in the clothing of the day including mountaineering garb. If you want to be a re-enactor, contact Christy Gordon of the Mountaineer Players, christy@foresttheater,com or Lois Peterson at nightowl129@juno.com. We also need volunteers to assist on the day of the hike by serving as guides and helping with set-up at the Indian Cultural Center. ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING: Volunteers should plan to attend an ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING on MONDAY, February 5th, from 7 - 9 pm at the Clubhouse.
