The White Pass trails generally have excellent snow and grooming, are mostly in old-growth forest, very scenic, quiet, and have a remote feel. A trail pass is $35 ($22 for military, and free for 73 and over) plus $5 for an RFID card (if you've been to White Pass before, either the Nordic or Alpine areas, remember to bring your RFID card). You can learn about the trails and current snow and trail conditions at the White Pass Nordic Center's website,
We will warm up on some green (easy) trails around Leech Lake, then head to the higher-elevation loops which are mostly blue (intermediate) trails. We'll ski at a pace at which the group can stay together.
For those new to skiing this year: if you're comfortable on moderate hills and are up for a full day of skiing, please join us! For reference, the hills are generally less steep, but longer, than the steepest trails on the Viking Loop at Cabin Creek. If you have any questions about whether this trip is suitable for you, please get in touch.
If you want to stay for a second day of skiing Sunday on your own, very likely some of us will be doing the same.
9:00 a.m. in front of the White Pass Nordic Center yurt, skis and packs on, ready to ski.
White Pass Ski Area is typically a 2:45-3:00 hour drive from Seattle; carpooling is encouraged. The leader will be staying locally (Packwood) for the weekend.
