Cross-country Ski - Sun Mountain Trails

 Plan your long Martin Luther King ski weekend now in Methow Valley.

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Chickadee Trailhead parking lot. From the town of Winthrop, drive 3 miles on Twin Lakes Road, turn onto Patterson Lake Road, drive 7 miles, turn left unto Thompson Ridge Road (forest service road 4410), and the Chickadee Trailhead is on the left side of road below Sun Mountain Lodge.

It is between a 15 to 20 minute drive from downtown Winthrop to Chickadee Trailhead.

 On Friday we will ski  approx. 11 miles on an Intermediate/N3 classic ski trip. This trip is  intended for skiers who keep a  steady, continuous pace with efficient diagonal stride. We will be cutting off at Thompson Ridge Road at Meadow Lark. There is a lot of uphill climb on Thompson Ridge where we will ski on blue intermediate trails, but end our ski on some easy going  green  trails. This is an alternate route than the main Thompson Ridge route.

Ski Skills Needed: A skill set to navigate ascending and descending large hills, strong braking, the ability to turn on downhill corners, and an intermediate continuous pace on flatter trails.  A good standard of fitness and stamina is required.  Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions about the skill set and pace required for this intermediate/N3  trip before you register.  The Trip Leader will vet each skier over the phone upon registration to make sure s/he has the ski skills required for this ski trip. If we have skied together previously it may not be necessary to assess your skills.

Plan on arriving to the Methow at least one day before the planned ski. It is an approx. 3.5 hour drive from Western WA.
