Out-of-Town Trip

Plan on arriving in Spokane on Monday, Feb. 22 for the 3 day ski. It is about a 5 hour drive on 1-90 between Western WA and Spokane.

We will meet at Selkirk Nordic Lodge, Mt. Spokane parking lot each morning at 8:30. Meet up time may vary each day by 30 minutes depending on the ski mileage for the day. For those who want to meet at a central meeting spot in town and caravan up the mountain is a possibility as well.

COVID -19 Guidelines

Please read and review the Mountaineer's COVID 19 Response for the latest up-to-date guidelines that we will follow. Also, participants who have had exposure to COVID-19 after registering for the trip,  will need to cancel the trip.

  • Arrive at our Meet Up with your face covering and hand sanitizer.
  • Face Masks: Wear it full time or pull it up when we near other skiers.
  • Social Distanced Skiing: We will keep at least 6 ft. apart or more on the trails and at rest.

Leader Permission is required before registering for this trip.

Mt. Spokane Nordic Website

This is an Intermediate and Advance Level Ski Trip. It is suitable for skiers who  can ski up and down intermediate blue and advanced black trails, who ski with a continuous classic glide on the flatter sections, and have the stamina to ski  over long distances.  Skier skills needed: continuous classic glide, wedge, wedge turns, and braking.

This is Day Two of a three day ski trip.

Each day we will sample Mt. Spokane’s groomed trail system, ski on easy, intermediate, and advanced trails, and  repeat some trails as the day's route requires. View Mt. Spokane's Nordic Ski Map.

We will use each day's weather and grooming reports, as well as skiers’ input, to determine daily ski routes and mileage.  There will be two leaders, and we will break into two groups if the need arises. Plan on being on the trail for approximately 5-6 hours a day, which includes lunch and rest stops. We will ski between 12-16 miles each day. There is only one day, for sure, that we will ski up to 16 miles, out to Tripp’s Knob and back.

All vehicles taken to the trailhead will require a WA State Snopark Pass. There is no additional trail fee.

Ski Equipment: This is a classic ski trip. A pair of regular classic skis  for groomed trails. I recommend bringing a backup pair of partial or full metal edged skis as they would be advantageous for unforeseen ungroomed trails or right after a heavy new snowfall.

The trip will be led by Cheri Solien and Dave Burdick. Please direct questions to Cheri at csolien@gmail.com or Dave at davepoulsbo@aol.com.

More information will be emailed at to you the first week of February. Please feel free to email Dave or I any questions you might have on skiing or lodging.

Lodging

We recommend finding lodging in downtown Spokane, North Spokane, or the Spokane Valley. There are ample, reasonably priced hotels and VRBO’s available. There is no suitable lodging near Mt. Spokane. Expect a 40 to 60 minute drive each way depending on where you choose to lodge.
