9am at location in Twisp, to fall into carpools. Each vehicle driving to Loup Loup Pass will need tire chains and a standard SnoPark permit, parking at the South Summit SnoPark, no groomed sticker needed.
If you have never XC skied from Loup Loup's South Summit SnoPark, you are in for a treat! This area is much less traveled than the more famous Methow Trails area, but with pretty good grooming, so many loop options, and possible opportunity for animal tracking as this area is known for moose. Plus, no expensive trail pass required, just a standard SnoPark permit.
As a group, we will ski out on a mix of green and blue level trails, and maybe try out a couple of the black runs. While skate skiers are welcome, it would be best if everyone was skiing classic, so we can stay more together as a group. Leader skis at the Loup on slightly wider (65mm) skis with metal edges, which make the black runs so much easier... We will meet up at each trail junction and evolve our plan together. We will stop somewhere out on the trails for lunch and snacks and drinks, so bring your refreshments with you. Distance planned is unknown at this point, but plan for a relatively full day, aiming to be back in Twisp by 3-4pm. Participants can find (and print off) a State Park map of the trails found here.
This trip is also part of my new Methow Mountaineers activity series, looking to develop more Mounties community in and adjacent to the Methow Valley, for those who live in or enjoy visiting this amazing area. All are welcome!
