8:30am at the Hyak, Iron Horse Snopark off I-90 exit 54 to be ready to ski out at 8:45am

Directions to the meeting place will be emailed to all participants as soon as registration closes.

Snow permitting, we will ski from the Hyak Snopark along the Iron Horse Trail beside Lake Keechelus. This flat linear out-and-back route is the former John Wayne Trail, now known as Palouse to Cascades.  Nordic Classic or Skate skis are required.

Being all flat, this trip is suitable for near beginners and others who want to get their ski season started on an easy trail up to a maximum of 10 miles round trip, depending on your speed and energy. The leader is a PSIA instructor. He will focus on skiers asking for advice and skiing tips. If conditions permit, including breaks, we will allow 2 hours to ski out and 2 to return (4 hours total).

If it has been a while since you’ve used your skis or you have a new set of equipment, please take time a few days before the trip date to make sure that all of your gear is at hand and in working order.

A WA Snopark seasonal non-motorized permit with groomed sticker is required for this trip:

https://epermits.parks.wa.gov/Store/SNO/SnoChoice.aspx

The leader recommends buying this in advance on-line to save time when you arrive, although day permits can normally be purchased at this snopark. Please note: there has been a significant increase in permit prices since last winter

COVID PRECAUTIONS:

Please review the Mountaineers most up-to-date guidance for COVID-19, and see a timeline of responses through the pandemic. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating with activities, courses, events, or lodge stays with The Mountaineers.

To register for this leaders Mountaineers xc trips: in order to limit the transmission of the Delta and Omicron COVID variants and to limit the demands on ICU staff and resources, the leader requires all trip members to bring proof of full vaccination, including booster shot if eligible.

All participants will need to bring a mask ready to wear at our trailhead meetup and a backpack containing the 10 essentials. Wherever possible all group members will maintain the 6ft minimum social distancing protocol and be ready to pull up their face covering over mouth and nose when this is not possible passing others on the trail.

CARPOOLING:

In the current COVID circumstances the leader is not facilitating or taking part in any carpools. Depending on who else signs up for this trip and their position on carpooling, it may be necessary for you to drive up to the Hyak snopark solo in a vehicle that meets the winter pass requirements https://wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpasses/winterdrivingtips

Please review this COVID and carpooling information before registering.

 MORE INFORMATION:

Full trip information will be emailed out to those who sign up as soon as registration closes on Dec. 21.  In the interim, any questions can be emailed to the trip leader Chris Ensor ctrails@comcast.net
