This trip is primarily for the 2025 students of the Everett Mountaineers Cross Country Ski Course. Others are welcome if students don't fill all the spots.
I've checked "Leader Permission Required" so that you and I have contact of some type before you register. Check the "contact leader" box and send me a note including a short bio of your cross-country skiing experience. If you are a 2025 student you will have had two classes before this trip and I'm pretty sure the trip will be within your capabilities but understand that it isn't a total "beginners" trip. If you handled the hills at the Stevens Nordic Center class the prior week you can handle what Chiwawa will throw at you.
The Chiwawa Sno-Park has three skiing options. Two are ungroomed (Squirrel Run- sometimes groomed) and Flying Loop). See and Ski is usually groomed a couple times a week in season and is a nice out and back trail of about 6 miles round trip. My thought is that we ski the groomed See and Ski trail outbound and then weather, snow, group dynamics, etc. permitting we cut across the road and ski all or part of the usually ungroomed Squirrel Run trail for a total of about 7.5 miles.
If driving you will need a Sno-Park Groomed Trails Permit for this trip. One pass per car.
Bring a lunch, snacks, liquids (hot and/or cold). We'll eat on the trail hopefully overlooking the Wenatchee River after we make some improvised snow benches/sitting platforms with our skis in the deep snow we'll have that day (hope this isn't totally wishful thinking).
If snow conditions just don't add up for this one we'll punt and go to Kahler Glenn/Wenatchee Lake State Park and ski those trails. Your Sno-Park permit is needed and will work there also.
Timing, weather, and group dynamics being considered there will be an optional apres-ski gathering. Probably at 59er Diner at Coles Corner.
Carpool: Meet at Monroe Park & Ride at 8:00AM (0800) for an 8:15AM (0815) departure
Even if driving solo please plan on meeting at the P&R unless, of course, you are coming from the east side of the mountains. Let me know your ride/drive plans, either way.
Start skiing at 10:30AM (1030) ish at the Chiwawa Sno-Park. Be back at parking lot by 2PMish or so.
