Individual Costs

  • All participants are responsible for their own airfare and any taxi/rideshares they require. Budget airfare on Frontier/Spirit is ~$150. Note that these airlines do not allow a traditional free carry on! They allow little backpacks only so pack light!
  • All participants are responsible for their own food costs.
  • If a participant opts to rent a car for their personal use, they are solely responsible for the cost, including gasoline.
  • If a participant opts to get their own lodging, they are solely responsible for the cost.
  • If a participant opts to rent a vehicle or lodging on their own, they are still obligated to share in the shared costs as it will raise the cost for everyone else if they do not. If you want to do your own thing, this is probably not the trip for you!

Shared Costs

The leader will coordinate lodging, transportation of climbing gear, and transportation. All participants agree to split these shared costs equally. Except for gasoline, all shared costs should be paid to the leader via Venmo (or equivalent) approximately two weeks prior to the trip.

  • AirBnB for 4 nights (Oct 19-Oct 23). Approximate share $150.
  • We will coordinate to pool climbing gear and transport them to and from the area by checking bags. The estimated cost to check two bags round trip for the purpose of transporting climbing gear is ~$400. Approximate share $40.
  • We will rent at least two vehicles (possibly 3)  for group transportation. These can be used to pick people up from or drop people off at the airport, if available (if not, you'll need to take a taxi or rideshare!). The cost of all the vehicles will be split equally between all participants! Approximate share $65.
  • Drivers will save receipts for gasoline and submit to the trip leader afterwards. For simplicity, all participants agree to split equally the cost of gasoline.
  • Approximate total for shared costs: $300 (excludes airfare, food, rideshares!)

Expectations

  • We plan to climb for three full days. Everyone should plan to arrive Thursday evening and leave Sunday night or Monday morning. Please don't request permission asking to just do 2 days or arrive mid-day on Friday, etc. This will not be possible.
  • There's tons of Sport and Trad to climb here! We aim to be flexible regarding each day's climbing plan.
  • Red Rocks is sandstone. If it rains, we won't be able to climb until it has dried out for at least a day. In that case, we can either do hikes/scrambles in the area or explore Las Vegas.

Permission Request

Please answer the following when requesting permission. If you don't provide this info, your request will be ignored! If you sign-up without receiving express permission, you will be dropped from the roster! Preference will be given to Foothills members, volunteers, and course graduates, but anyone may submit a request.

  • Please include the following statement in your request (copy and paste works!). "I have read the description of individual and shared costs, and I understand I will need to contribute about $300 toward shared costs.
  • Do you lead sport or trad? If yes, what grades are you interested in leading (for each). (Note: you do not have to necessarily lead on rock to join this trip, but we do need enough leaders. Leaders should have the relevant Mountaineers badge!)
  • Permission requests will be collected and evaluated on 8/15, and then as they are received.
