Previous climbing experience required for participation. Qualified Mountaineers members and non-members are welcome.  Contact trip leader Stan Hummel for permission to participate.

We plan to climb at Roto Wall and possibly climb R&D if time allows

Prerequisites for this trip:

  • A current WFA or similar first aid certification.
  • At least some training in rescue methods for high-angle terrain.
  • Read the book "Rock Climbing Anchors" by Craig Luebben OR "Climbing Anchors" by John Long.

What we plan to practice on this trip:

  • Making & evaluating solid placements of traditional rock protection (nuts, cams, etc.) while standing safely at ground level.
  • Rigging multipoint belay anchors (cordelette, etc.)
  • Mock-leads, where pro is placed as if leading, but a top-rope backup is in place.
  • When ready, leading on trad gear for real (no top-rope backup.)
  • Practice mock leads on a multipitch route.
