We will be riding at a relaxed pace to enjoy the scenery. This is a great ride for beginners and recent graduates of the bikepacking course, as well as people looking to get in early-season fitness as they prepare for bigger and more challenging trips in the summer. All participants should expect to maintain a pace that they stay in visual contact with the group throughout the ride. We will need to travel briefly on roadways because of some detours off of the trail due to closures. All riders are expected to follow traffic rules. Bringing a rear safety light for these portions is also a good idea. We will be traveling to the developed Whitehorse Campground to sleep, and then. returning by the same route.
The Whitehorse Campground is near a mountain bike trail network and the town of Darrington. Depending on when we get to the campground and interest, we may go on a brief excursion on one of the mountain bike trails or roads(we'll stay as a group), or visit Darrington for a pre-dinner beer or snack.
We will try to return to the Trafton Trailhead by mid-afternoon so that participants can expect to be home in the Seattle/Tacoma area by early evening-dinner time on Sunday.
My goal is to have a fun and safe ride with opportunities for all to get to know each other better, build community and grow our experience as bike packers!
We will meet at the Trafton Trailhead just east of Arlington. We will meet at 9:45 with a planned departure time of 10:00 AM. Participants should plan to arrive at the trailhead 30 minutes or more to have sufficient time to set up their bikes and gear. Participants should be ready to ride when we meet for the pre-ride debrief and bike check at 9:45.

Required Equipment
While most of the route is on smooth gravel and without steep downhills, a bike with sufficient cushion and traction (2 inches or more) to comfortably carry a loaded bike on rough conditions is recommended. A mountain or gravel bike with sufficient brakes and tires will be fine for this trip. The trip leaders will check bikes at the trailhead and anyone with an insufficiently safe bike for the conditions or insecurely attached gear might be asked not to participate. Participants should have repair equipment to take care of mechanical issues with their own bicycle, as well as fixing punctures for their own tires.
Participants should have sufficient food for two lunches, dinner and breakfast, as well as snacks while riding. While we may make a short trip in to Darrington after arriving at Whitehorse Campground, we may not have time/opportunity to get groceries along the way. Whitehorse Campground does have running water and there may be places to filter or refill water along the way. However, it willl be a good idea to already have sufficient water and capacity for the day's riding ready when you arrive at the trailhead.
