Moderate-paced morning ride with the goal to keep things light, fun, and social. Fast people will need to ride with the group. No ebikes this time, sorry.
Please note: I like to make a few stops "here and there" to check out the scenery and to help make everyone feel part of the group. If stops are not your thing and you would rather keep your head down and ride, this trip is not for you; however, those who sign up should have a basic level of riding fitness (at a distance of 25 miles) for better group dynamics.
From the Cedar River Trail, we will cross Highway 18 and follow a water pipeline up to Lake Youngs, and then we will wiggle our way back down to the Cedar River Trail through neighborhoods, parks, and past small lakes. Once back on the Cedar River Trail, we will ride into Maple Valley, grab some donuts to go, head over to Lake Wilderness, and take a short break to enjoy the views and our donuts (or other snacks). After sugaring up, we will wander through a park with lots of gnome statues (a little hike-a-bike here), ride through another neighborhood to a "somewhat" secret path that will lead us back onto the Cedar River Trail, and then back to our cars.
The terrain will be a mix of dirt, a little single track, gravel and asphalt. The off-road terrain is fairly smooth dirt and gravel, but there will be a few spots with roots, so it will be okay to walk. A gravel bike is best but a mountain bike is fine too. Tires should be at least 38mm wide and have an off-road type of tread. No slicks!
If someone volunteers to assistant lead, I will open more spots for the ride, but please be committed. The primary task for the assistant leader will be to help manage the group during the ride.
Please don't bring your overnight gear.
Any questions, feel free to contact leader.
08:30am ready-to-ride at the Cedar River Trailhead in Maple Valley near Highway 18. (Note: there is no restroom here.)
An email will go out by Friday afternoon with final details.
