Longmire parking lot, adjacent to the National Park Inn: https://goo.gl/maps/FkW4wupxk3x1sofYA
Saturday, November 26th at 8:30am.
We'll meet at the Longmire parking lot at 8:30am for introductions and a discussion about weather/snow conditions as well as the day's itinerary. When the Longmire gate opens (at approximately 9am), we'll drive from Longmire to the Narada Falls parking lot. We'll then meet at the trailhead (https://goo.gl/maps/MLe7BAuYtPLiMxdL9) and get our day started.
This is an early season snowshoe trip:
- trails are not marked
- we will be blazing our own trail (i.e., we'll be route-finding)
- we will need to cross rivers at established crossings (culverts, bridges)
- snow is not very deep (approx 2-3ft)
Participants therefore need to be very flexible and patient, and willing to tolerate less-than-ideal snowshoeing conditions. Portions of the trek (such as the extension down to Louise Lake) will be on snow-covered (and closed to traffic) roads.
We'll trek at a moderate pace with stops for snacks/views. Participants should have a decent fitness base. Total elevation gain of approx 1400ft if we go all the way to Louise Lake, with total trip length of approx 6 miles: Gaia GPS route.
The weather forecast currently calls for partly-sunny skies and no snow until late afternoon (but can of course change without notice):
