We will likely consolidate carpools in town, based on where participants are coming from.  There is a $15 per-vehicle entrance fee at Mount Rainier National Park, or use a Mount Rainier Annual Pass ($30), National Park Pass, or Interagency Pass.  Vehicles entering the park in winter must carry tire chains, and you may be required to put them on.

Update 2/24:  The rangers have confirmed that the Reflection Lakes are is closed to winter camping due to low snowpack, so the destination has been changed to Mazama Ridge.

Join me for this overnight trip.  We'll snowshoe in from Paradise and set up tent sites on Mazama Ridge.  Distance is only about 1.5 miles each way, but we'll be carrying full overnight gear.  Tent camping is the plan, and you will want to have a 4-season tent, two sleeping pads, and a sleeping bag rated to 15 degrees or (preferably) lower.  A collapsible snow shovel is also needed, to create a comfortable camp.  Hard-sided bear canisters are required, not due to bears, but to protect your tasty-smelly items from pine martens and foxes.

We can use our extra time Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning exploring adjacent terrain, and shooing gray jays away from our dinner.

Preference is given to individuals who have completed the Winter Camping course, but if you have equivalent experience please contact me.  (If you have completed the Winter Camping course, you hereby have my permission to join.)
