0800 at the trailhead off of 706 near Ashford. (directions will be provided).
Actual route depends on snow conditions, snow level, etc but will be on the MTTA trails on the north side of 706 and include a stop at the Copper Creek hut. There are several different options, some of which have views and are more open, others more sheltered by trees. The road accessing the Sno Park trailhead has several different parking areas, the one we end up starting from depends on snow level and road conditions.
My goals for this trip are:
1. Be safe.
2. Explore the trails/routes north and east of Copper Creek Hut as well as a warm up stop/lunch stop in the hut.
3. Learn something
My expectations for trip participants are:
1. Practice Leave no Trace principles.
2. Be respectful of all participants.
3. Have the necessary gear and clothing to be comfortable and safe in winter conditions.
4. Have the physical conditioning necessary for this trip. The route is all on logging roads and there are only a couple of short steeper sections, most of it is pretty gentle terrain. That said, snow travel on snowshoes can be tiring, depending on conditions. Mileage will probably be in the 8-10 range (depends on route) and the elevation gain all depends on where we start from on the road to the Sno-Park.
