This should be a very mellow trip. We'll wander around the basin as much or as little we want and go as slow as the slowest person wants/needs to go. There's no specific destination but we'll trend generally toward the upper basin just between Red and Kendall Peaks but will turn back where it begins to become avalanche territory. Snow levels are still low but current snowfall is on top of a very consolidated base. There are spots for some great photo winter ops as well as forest wanderings. Please allow the whole day for this whether we use it or not. Do not plan an additional afternoon or early evening activity that you may not get back for. Weather is forecast as very cool but clear and dry. Dress appropriately, have all ten essentials and sturdy lug soled boots. I would expect some ice in places. Poles are highly recommended. Bring lunch and at least 2 liters of liquid. A change of clothes is nice for the trip home but obviously not required. The primary meeting place is the Puyallup South Hill Park-n-Ride at 7:00am but I'll be going down 167 so a secondary meeting place is the Peasley Canyon Park-n-Ride near the intersection of Hwy 167 and Hwy 18 about 7:20am. Finally, for those that might be coming from points North, I will swing by the North Bend Park-n-Ride that is at the intersection W. North Bend Way & Sydney Ave. N. If you don't know where either of the alternatives is please email me for directions and, for either alternative meeting place I must know in advance which place you will be meeting. Be a bit early, I will wait a maximum of 10 minutes at each alternative spot. Traffic may delay my speed between meeting places so be on time but allow some extra in case I get delayed between spots.
