  • Road Conditions: Road rough but passable
  • Route Conditions:

    NF-77 is in pretty rough shape. My AWD Subaru lost traction a few times. Be careful; I wouldn't bring a low clearance car on this road.

    Another leader stated "Bring a vehicle with good ground clearance.  The road is not in good condition for the last couple of miles to Pinto Rock."

Rock climb for the Seattle Shafer/ Sarver and Metz/ Dittig SIG's, and a mentored lead for Don Sarver.

Rope leads are free to sign up at anytime.

(Priority) will be given to basic students who need a basic rock climb to graduate.  Open to all other Basic students after Friday August 23rd at 6pm.

Those who do not follow the previous two lines before Friday August 23rd, will be removed from the roster.

Required Equipment

  • The Ten Essentials
  • Climbing Helmet
  • Mountain boots that can accept crampons (not hiking boots)
  • Crampons
  • Ice Axe (not technical ice tools)
  • Climbing Harness
  • Belay device
  • Belay gloves
  • Nut/stopper cleaning tool
  • 1 large, locking pear-shaped carabiner ("HMS" or "Pearabiner")
  • 2 locking carabiners
  • 6 non-locking carabiners
  • Webbing and accessory cords (3 60cm (single), and 2 120cm (double) sewn or tied runners; 2 sewn runners (120 cm and 60 cm)
  • Hero Loop or Hollow Block
  • Personal Anchor System PAS
  • Rock climbing Shoes
  • Chalk bag (optional)
  • Insulating layers and warm non-cotton base layer clothing for climbing outside in cold
  • Toiletry kit with WAG Bag/Blue Bags (to pack out any waste)
  • Day Pack large enough to hold all of the above gear.
