Basic Rock Climb - Ingalls Peak/South Ridge

Priority to Foothills Basic & LOT students until June 20th. A fun basic rock climb with beautiful views.

Priority for Foothills students until June 20th - participant spots are reserved for Foothills Basic students and Rope Lead spots are reserved for Foothills LOT students. Registration is open to all beginning on June 21st. If you are not in Foothills Basic or Foothills LOT and you register prior to June 21st, you will be removed from the roster.

This is a mid-level basic climb, a little harder than the Tooth or SEWS. Participants should be comfortable rock scrambling un-roped on 4th class terrain and be capable of climbing moves up to 5.6 in difficulty. The climbing is enjoyable and the views are beautiful.

Students should be capable of carrying about 10 pounds of group gear (usually a rope) in addition to their personal gear.

  • The Ten Essentials
    • Navigation: map, GPS track saved to phone is acceptable
    • Headlamp & extra batteries
    • Sun protection: sunglasses, sun protective clothes, sunscreen
    • First aid: personal first aid kit
    • Knife/repair kit
    • Fire: matches or lighter
    • Emergency shelter: can be a lightweight emergency bivy
    • Extra food
    • Extra water: Capacity to carry 2-3L of water, water filter recommended
    • Extra clothes: sufficient to survive an overnight in case of emergency
  • Mountaineering boots or approach shoes
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Belay device w/ large, locking pear shaped carabiner
  • Rappel device
  • Personal anchor w/ locking carabiner
  • Double length sling for rappel extension 
  • Hero loop or hollow block w/ locking carabiner (for rappel back-up)
  • Anchor material (~20ft of 7mm cordelette)
  • Chock pick (nut tool)
  • Backpack with room to carry a rope
  • Rock climbing shoes (optional)
  • Belay gloves (optional)
