This is a mid-level basic climb, a little harder than the Tooth or SEWS,  less challenging than Kangaroo Temple. The climbing is enjoyable and the views are beautiful. Here is a recent trip report for your review:  https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/trip-reports/ingalls-peak-south-ridge-18

  • About 4 miles of hiking to the base with an elevation gain of 3,000 feet; be comfortable with the elevation gain and exposure before signing up on this trip.
  • Good fitness is very important. Most basic rock climbs' approach hikes cover 2.5~3 miles with 2,500"~3,000" in elevation gain. You will also carry your leader's ropes, because leaders will carry the cams and nuts that are equally heavy. We are looking at ~35-lb pack weight for followers.
  • We have the option to do the scramble variation instead of the first pitch (and probably scramble the second), so you should be comfortable with some unroped T5 scrambling.  There is also a 5.6 variation we can do on the third pitch.

5AM at Lake Ingalls THYou will need a NW Forest Pass or Interagency Pass to park at this trailhead.

Camping in the area the night before is highly recommended, and you can car camp or sleep in your tent at the TH. Another option is to camp at the Beverly campground a few miles down the road.
