  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 6,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 11,138 ft
  • Pace: 1 mph

Goal is to accomplish a qualifying glacier climb for Olympia Basic Alpine Climbing students by reaching the summit of Little Tahoma via the Frying Pan and Whitman glaciers. We may also summit the Meany Crest if time allows.

Trip will be strenuous but will not be trying to break speed records by utilizing three full days. Group will stick together and move deliberately at an average pace of 1 mph.

Permits have been secured, and attendees will be expected to cover the cost of their share ($20) even if the climb is canceled due to unsafe conditions, weather, or wildfire. Attendees must also purchase their own Rainier annual climbing permit ($70) and send me proof, via screenshot, by August 1st.

Participants and instructors must be knowledgeable with roped glacier travel, hard snow techniques, crevasse rescue, and comfortable with class 3-4 scrambling and exposure.

My leadership style is laid-back, and I allow all members of the climb to have a say in major decision points. I view myself as a facilitator for the group to achieve a successful trip.

Group gear and other details will be coordinated using a shared spreadsheet.

Please request leader's permission and include the following:

  • Recent climbing/scrambling experience
  • Current fitness regime/ recent conditioning hikes
  • Pertinent medical conditions
  • First aid training

Details to be announced.
