Basic Canyon - Brown Creek Campground

Come join for our 3rd annual 4th of July weekend canyoning trip on the Olympic Peninsula!

  • Easy

Itinerary: We will be camping in the Olympic National Forest along the SF Skokomish River and running some great canyons over 3 days (Sat. 7/1, Sun. 7/2, and Mon. 7/3). After canyons each day we will come back to camp and hang out with the group. We will be camping Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, and heading home after our canyons on Monday so everyone will have the July 4th holiday free. If you are unable to join for the entirety of the trip, please message Jake and let him know when you are able to join during the trip.

Camping Info: We will be camping at Brown Creek campground near LeBar Creek. The campground is first come first serve, and we have been able to easily get a few sites the past few years the day prior to running canyons. Jake will arrive early Friday afternoon to secure campsites for the group. Please bring your own camping equipment, food, cookware, water (there is no potable water at the campground), etc. The campground has pit toilets. Each campsite will hold 2-3 small tents. Most sites have flat ground for those who would prefer to sleep in their vehicles. Click here for more info on Brown Creek campground.

Potluck: On Saturday evening (7/1/23), we will be having a 4th of July weekend potluck at camp, so please bring a main dish or side dish to contribute.

Canyons: The canyons on the itinerary are Lebar Creek, Rock Creek, and Upper Fulton Creek. All of these are beautiful, basic level canyons with conditions that are typically beginner friendly in early July. Canyoneers of all levels are welcome. These canyons are beautiful and worth running no matter what your experience level. If we get enough people signed up for the trip, we may split into multiple groups to run different canyons each day. A final trip itinerary with finalized groups and leaders, canyons, and the trip emergency action plan (EAP) will be sent out the week prior to the trip.

Fees: There will be a flat $15 fee to participate on this trip. This charge will be used for campsite fees.  To make logistics easier on leaders, this fee will be the same for all participants, regardless of camping status/duration. If you are planning on just joining for a day w/o camping, please message Jake and he can add you to the roster.
