Basic Alpine Climb - Unicorn Peak

Basic Alpine Climb. Priority to Olympia branch basic climbing students needing an alpine climb for course credit. Participants from other branches are welcome to request being on the waiting list. After June 1st, any open spaces on the roster will be filled by persons on the waiting list.

  • Basic Alpine Climb, Strenuous 1, Technical 1
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,600 ft

Details about how we will all collect at the trailhead will be discussed in trip planning email messages in the days ahead of the trip.

An excellent early season Alpine climb good for practicing crampon technique, ice axe technique, using a fixed line to ascend technical terrain and rappelling.  There may even be a glissade on the descent.  An excellent opportunity to practice the skills learned in your basic climbing course, or as a early season trip to shake off the rust for more seasoned climbers.
