This trip will be a one-day climb, and we will pick the better weather day a week before the trip. Here is a trip report for your review: https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/trip-reports/silver-star-mountain-silver-star-creek-4

You must be prepared and fit for a long day with a lot of elevation gain and loss. We won't go crazy fast, but we will move efficiently. When requesting leader permission, please share with me the following information:

  • Your level of recent conditioning and your experience traveling on steep snow and exposed rock scrambling terrain.
  • Proficiency in lead belay, use of a handline, and following on a multi-pitch climb
  • Your backcountry ski experience (skinning and kick turns and ability to ski ungroomed black‑diamond terrain in variable snow conditions) -Details of your last two backcountry tours, including: date, distance, elevation, duration, location, and snow conditions
  • Year you completed AIARE 1
  • Do you own crampons that are compatible with ski boots and ski crampons?

Rope leaders can request permission any time Starting Feb 1st.  Rope leads are required to have the Leading Trad Routes badge. Ideally you should have completed at least Self Rescue I as well. Even better if you know how to set up protection systems on steep snow. Current Intermediate students are welcome to request a roster spot, but successful awarding of the necessary skill badges by the listed climb date is expected.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions

Meet 5:30AM @Silver Star Sno Park. Recommend sleeping in cars the night before at the TH.
