Basic Alpine Climb - Sahale Peak/Quien Sabe Glacier

Single day climb of Sahale Peak via the Quien Sabe Glacier. Highly dependent on weather, snow conditions, and other force majeure events. Requests to join prior to the activity opening date will be ignored.

  • Basic Glacier Climb, Basic Rock Climb, Strenuous 3, Technical 2
  • Moderate
  • Elevation Gain: 5,780 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,680 ft
  • Pace: 1.1-2.2
The objectives for the climb  are:
  • Have fun and enjoy each other's company.
  • Make for the summit, conditions permitting.
  • Return to the trailhead safe and sound.
On this trip we expect to move continuously as a group at a moderately steady pace with at least one 5 minute rest break every hour/1,000 feet of elevation gain until we reach our destination where we'll have a 15-20 minute rest break for lunch, before returning to the trailhead.  Leader will provide access to a trip planning document for the confirmed roster and those on the waitlist for group gear assignments.  A "Welcome Climbers" confirming email will be issued to the roster no less than 72 hours before the activity with finalized details.

Drive I-5 to just north of Mount Vernon, then east on SR-20 (North Cascades Highway) to Marblemount. Sign in at Ranger Station and get a permit. Continue east on Cascade River Road about 21.7 miles to the old Diamond Mine Road (fork in road about 1.5 miles from the end of Cascade River Road, 3,220 ft). There is limited parking at the fork.  Final travel and carpooling arrangements TBD.
