This is a private SIG outing.

We will be approaching via Cave Ridge and returning the same way.

Bring the usual gear for a rock climb including harness, helmet and a small assortment of runners and carabiners. Also bring ice axe, crampons and snowshoes (at the trailhead we may opt to leave behind the crampons). Trekking poles are recommended. There is no reliable source of water once we leave the trail. It may be a hot day so I recommend carrying three liters of water and starting off from the trailhead well hydrated.

Leaders bring a 50M (or longer) rope and a light rack: a set of nuts plus three small- to mid-sized cams.

A USGS map and route descriptions are available here:

The trailhead is the same as for the Snow Lake trail. Take I-90 exit 52 and then turn left onto Alpental Road and drive two miles to the parking area. A Northwest Forest Parking Pass is required.

For carpooling we will be meeting at 6am at the Eastgate Park & Ride in Bellevue. To get there, from I-90 eastbound take exit 10 for Richards Road and turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp and then take an immediate right onto Eastgate Way.

A report from three weeks ago said that there was ice and snow on the rock pitch. Hopefully, it will be melted out by now.

Rob Polasek will be leading the climb in the role of mentored leader.
