Trip #16 from Backpacking Washington: "This loop partially within the Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument travels through a deep glacier-carved valley draped in spectacular old-growth forest and over a high ridge at the edge of t he 1980 blast zone that now bursts with wildflowers and views. Add a couple of placid high-country lakes, an old fire lookout site, and a resident elk herd and you have all the makings of a wonderful adventure"
