Covid-19 Information--this trip is open only to folks that are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and will provide a copy of their CDC card to the leader.  Additionally, this trip requires a short (about 15 minutes) carpool with other participants to travel from the Kautz Cr. TH to Longmire to Comet Falls TH.  An additional participant will need to  also drive the leader back to his car at Comet Falls TH.  All persons carpooling with be required to double mask (one paper mask, covered by a cloth mask) while in the vehicle together.  Additionally the windows will remain mostly open while in transit.  Each participate needs to be in agreement with this arrangement.  If this does not work for you, then this trip is not for you.

Day 1: Comet Fall TH to area at least 1/4 mile beyond the end of the official trail in Van Trump Park. There we will search for a suitable camp. After set-up we will head northeast doing a clockwise loop to Wilson Park, to the edge/lateral moraine of the NIsqually Glacier to gawk at the ice and look across to the crowds at Paradise.  We will then loop back to camp via Cushman Crest. This will be all off-trail and steep at times (3 miles, 2940' gain with full packs to Van Trump park, 2.5 miles, 1300' gain with day pack for the exploratory loop).

Day 2: Pack up camp and head cross-country to Mildred Point and then down the Rampart Ridge Trail to the Wonderland Trail then up to Indian Henry's Hunting Ground and Mirror Lake.  We will then head Northeast on the Mirror Lakes trail and Pyramid Peak trail to an off-trail camping area on the saddle between Copper Mtn. and Pyramid Peak. Find a suitable campsite. Optional cross-country trip up to Copper Mtn. may be possible (10 miles with 3000' gain with full pack, optional 1.6 miles, 900' day hike to Copper Mtn.).

Day 3: Pack up camp and retrace steps to Pyramid Peak Trail.  Drop packs and don light day packs and proceed up the boot path to Pyramid Peak for outstanding views.  May do additional exploration of the meadows to the West/Northwest of Pyramid Peak.  Recollect our ful packs and head down the Kautz Creek Trail to our cars (7.3 miles, 1000' gain with full packs, 1.4 miles, 1000' gain with day pack to Pyramid Peak).

This is a Leader's Permission Only Trip--Please answer/reply to all the questions and concerns listed below.

1) I am comfortable with and have experience with off-trail travel. Some slopes may be as steep as 1:3 or 33%.  Please list trips that demonstrate this ability.

2) I am experienced at more difficult backpack trips. I can carry a full pack up 3000' in a day. Please list trips that demonstrate this ability.

3) I read and fully understand the Covid-19 precautions listed above.  I understand that there will be a short carpool and will comply with the double masks during the carpooling. I am fully vaccinated.

4) I understand that there are no prescribed/designated campsites and that we must find our own as a group.  The individual sites may be dispersed and not flat or otherwise ideal. The leader has researched that there are camping areas in these areas we just have to find them and be grateful for what is there.

5) I understand that this trip is off the grid  and explorational and am willing to adjust the trip as safety and other necessities arise.

Two trekking poles are required to add safety on steep slopes. Bear canister or Ursack required as well as a small summit bag/day pack for excursions.  This will be an awesome exploration forced trips--a true BABP adventure. Rob
