**ACTIVITY CHANGED DUE TO WILDFIRE**  Meet at Newhalem Parking Lot @ 8am

This trail is in the North Cascades National Forest and because of that permits are required to camp at the various campgrounds, and they are first-come-first-serve.  I plan to camp at Pumpkin Mountain or Big Beaver campgrounds (about 6 miles from the trail head), but due to permit availability, we may end up having to pick a differnent trail or different camping).  Therefore, anyone signing up for this must be able to hike at least 10 miles each day.

Since the permits are first-come-first-serve, I will be driving up Friday afternoon to go get one for us (you can only get permits at the earliest the day before the trip).  Then I’ll be camping at Newhalem Campground since it’s the closest one that takes reservations and I don’t like leaving things to chance.  I recommend camping at the campground if you’re not into getting up super early to drive, plus it’s a really pretty campground.  Since we’ll be getting to camp fairly “early” in the day.  We may end up going on a day hike after we make camp.

Although open to all club members over age 18, this trip is also part of the B3 Backpacking Building Blocks series and eligible for B3 course credit. In addition, this backpack will have a practical instructional/learning focus and offer experience in proper gear use and camp set-up techniques.
