Backpack - Talapus Lake Trail

We will backpack in an easy 3 miles with an evenly graded 1220 feet elevation gain, passing beautiful Talapus Lake enroute to our campsite at sparkling Olallie Lake.

Meet at 9 AM Saturday at the Talapus Lake trailhead at Lookout Point, reached from Exit 45 of I-90.  Turn left at the end of the freeway exit and right at the first road junction.  The Forest Service road switchbacks several miles uphill to the Lookout Point parking lot.

This trip takes us through some of the best of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.  After setting up camp at Olallie Lake, we will have an opportunity for an optional day hike to a viewpoint overlooking Olallie Lake, with Mt. Rainier visible in the distance.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
