America the Beautiful or Northwest Forest Pass Required
This is a student backpack so the pace may be slower than other Mountaineers trips. Please keep that in mind when requesting permission.
This route includes fording a river as well as hiking through a burn section with no shade. Additionally there about 35 downed trees between the river and Spectacle Lake along the trail to hike over or around. Please be sure you are comfortable with a possible cold and deep water crossing as well as traversing many large downed trees in the sun in the afternoon.
LEADERS PERMISSION:
Early request will be ignored.
In your request please tell me:
1. You understand this is a student trip and are happy to go at their pace and are flexible to whatever the group needs.
2. Your 3 most recent hikes/backpacks including the dates, miles, elevation gain, and hiking pace.
3. You are comfortable fording the river (in possibly above knee water) for and traversing the large volume of blowdowns in the afternoon sun.
You must address all points for your request to be considered.
Our group will typically maintain a 1.5-2.0 mph pace with full overnight packs. Please make sure that this is a comfortable traveling speed before requesting permission. The group will be traveling together.
Other B3 students may request leaders permission starting 6/5/2023
Mountaineers may request leaders permission starting 6/19/2023
