Backpack - Spectacle Lake

A three day, 30 mile backpack, with total mileage including an optional day-two side trip (so not 20 miles as stated in the generic route description) in and through the Alpine Lakes wilderness. We will start at the Pete Lake trailhead and hike to Spectacle Lake.

We will camp at Spectacle Lake for two nights.  On the second day we will do an (optional) day hike to Park Lakes along the Pacific Crest Trail.  I'll provide additional details regarding meeting time and place, carpooling, and other gear or trip circumstances in a pre-trip email.

Total Distance 30 miles; longest single day is 11 miles; total elevation gain is 3,000, with maximum single-day elevation gain of 1,800 feet.

Moderate Pace


Open to members age 18 and older.  This trip is part of the Foothills Branch B3 Backpacking Building Blocks course, qualifies toward course graduation credit, and will include special instructional elements and informal expert guidance, but is open to all individuals

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
