The trail to Shi Shi Beach is a fairly flat 2.0 mi until the 150-foot descent down the bluff to the beach. In the rainy season this section of the trail can be quite muddy. Hiking under 2.0 miles south along the beach brings you to Petroleum creek to camp.
- The parking lot at the trailhead is for day use only. A recreation permit from the Makah Nation is required to access the beach. The permit can be purchased at several locations in Neah Bay.
- Overnight parking is available at one of the houses just before the trailhead parking lot. As of 2025, the cost was $30 to $40 to park for two days. Bring cash to pay for this parking.
- A backcountry camping permit is required for overnight stays. Obtain it from the Wilderness Information Center in Port Angeles. The leader will obtain the permit.
- A hard-sided food container like a bear canister is required to store your food, garbage, and scented items on overnight stays.
- Learn about tides before you go to make your travel along the beach safe.
