Backpack - Sheep Lake

Beginner family backpack - priority to Olympia family backpack participants and Olympia families with children until 7/10/22. Please note you must have a child/youth with you to participant as this is a family activity. Target age range: 6-12. Please contact leader with additional questions

This group will meet Friday evening at Chinook Pass and hike in to the lake (probably around 5pm).  This will be discussed with course participants closer to the date.  If you will be coming up Saturday morning instead, please contact leader. 

This is an Olympia Family backpack with priority to Olympia families with children that either 1) participated in the 2021 or 2022 family backpack course or 2) involved with the Olympia family hiking already.  After 7/10/22, this course will open up to families of other branches.

This is designed to be a beginner family backpack.  We will have a more advanced backpack later in the summer. 

Please note that you need to have a child with you to participate as this is a families activity.  You will be dropped if this does not apply to you.

A full prospectus will be provided to course participants.

Target age for youth is 6-12 years of age, give or take a year or two.

Required Equipment

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
