Destination details, NOTE that they do not match the details in the listing-this trip is for one night September 7 returning September 8: I have a permit for 6 people to camp at Clear Lake. My plan is to do the High Divide loop counter clockwise, starting at the Sol Duc falls trailhead, elev 2000 feet and going to Heart Lake elev 5040, approx 8.5 miles. Here we have the option of dropping our packs and walking out the Cat Basin primitive trail as far as our hearts desire, maximum about 3 miles. Then back to the High Divide trail approx 4 miles to overnight at Clear Lake. Hike out is about 7 miles with a 2900 foot elevation drop. This trip will require that we carry bear canisters, the Wilderness Information Center has canisters that can be borrowed if you do not have one. The cost for the permit is $3 a person and you will need to have a National Parks pass if you do not carpool with someone who has one. If you have not done an overnight backpack, or need some advice about what to bring, I am very willing to help with info. We will probably be able to share some gear, such as stoves, fuel, tents and water filter amongst ourselves. I will contact each of you so we can arrange this.
