Rampart ridge and lakes offer spectacular views of peaks, ponds, flowers, rocks and possibly ripe huckleberries. While most of the trail follows the valley at a gentle grade, the last mile or so up to Rachel Lake and then the half mile up to the ridge are quite steep, rocky and rooty. Alpine heaven requires some serious uphill climbing.
