Enjoy a fall backpack in the North Cascades with views of Tower Mountain and Golden Horn surrounded by (potentially golden) larch trees.

Meet 9:30am at Rainy Pass.  Car shuttle 30 min RT to Cutthroat Lake trailhead before departure.

Backpack from Rainy Pass (4800 ft) 10 miles and camp along the PCT  near Snowy Lakes climbing over over Cutthroat Pass (elev 6800) and Granite Pass (elev 6300) on our way.  Option to hike 1/2-1 miles to Lower and Upper Snowy Lakes from camp.   Return trip will be to Cutthroat Lake trail head (elev 4500) with optional 0.4 mi side trip to Cutthroat Lake.   Beautiful fall hike among the potentially golden larches with stunning views of Tower and Golden Horn.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
