Mt Adams dominates the landscape view along this section of the PCT. The trail climbs through cathedral-like old growth forests and traverses sprawling meadows of wildflowers. Distance is 23 miles with 2600 elevation gain. This backpack will begin at Forest Service Road 23 trailhead and end at Forest Service Road 5603 or Road 115. Cars will need to be set up at both trailheads. Due to the long drive and car shuttle set up,camping on the prior Friday evening close to the trail head may be highly recommended. It is also possible that the backpack may be extended to Monday if more time is needed. This decision will be made several weeks proir to the event. Estimated schedule: Day 1: Road 23 to Sheep Lake 10.1 miles and 2100 feet Day 2: Sheep Lake to Road 5603 or Road 115; 12 miles and 500 feet. Participants must have prior backpacking experience. This backpack is part of the PCT Series. Mountaineers Members that are part of the PCT Series have Leader permission to sign up for an event after May 14 based on their lottery trip choices. Individuals not part of the PCT series may sign up for one PCT series backpack per year and may sign up for this activity no sooner than 10 days prior to the activity date if space is available and at leader discretion. Any questions regarding this policy may be directed to the PCT Series Program CO-Administrators Steve LeBrun and Chris Caviezel.
